Suffolk Councillor Mark Bee - Grants funding for Dash Cams

We would like to say thank you to Suffolk Councillor Mark Bee who has granted Bact £1000 from the locality budget he administers for bact to purchase some dash cams for our vehicles!

We have already purchased one and will be installing this in one of our buses to see if we are happy with it and if we are, we will be buying a further four.  Notices will be placed on the buses to inform passengers of the camera’s as they are both forward and rear facing.  We are hoping they will prove to be invaluable especially when it comes to insurance claims and any kind of disputes.

David and Jill Simpson fund via the Suffolk Community Foundation - funding for wheelchairs

Bact would like to thank the David and Jill Simpson fund via the Suffolk Community Foundation who have granted us  funding this month to purchase three new wheelchairs.

1 of 3 new wheelchairs

This funding was sought as we are increasingly coming across passengers with wheelchairs which are not suitable for strapping down in our vehicles.  These wheelchairs which are now located in our Lowestoft and Bungay bases can be loaned to passengers when their wheelchairs are not considered safe to secure in our vehicles.  If you know someone that would benefit from using these wheelchairs in our transport, please let us know.

Successful Social Evening

Bact held a very successful social evening at the end of February as a thank you to all the volunteers for their hard work and dedication. Long service awards were given out at the event to volunteers that have given over 20 years service.

We have had lots of great feedback to say how enjoyable the evening was and many comments about the sumptuous buffet!

Eric Harrison picking up his Long Service award with our Chairman, Philip Mitchell and our special guest, Peter Aldous – MP for Waveney.

Thank you for your understanding over the last few days with the cancellation of our services. We had to make the safety of our Volunteers, staff and of course our passengers a priority.

Weather permitting ALL services will be running again on Monday 5th March.

DAR - Nov 2017 to Jan 2018 was a fun filled quarter

Last quarter we had some enjoyable days out. In November we took a bus full of passengers to see the Thursford Spectacular, a long but great day out to this world famous event. One passenger said it was the best start to her Christmas!

We also enjoyed trips to the Pantomime to see the Lowestoft Players production of Cinderella and to the Carlton Crown for a pre-Christmas lunch.

See the events for next quarters outings.

Spotlight on Volunteer - Minibus driver

Rowena drives a Thursday dial-a-ride bus in Lowestoft and also fills in when other volunteers are away.

“I have been volunteer driving for about 4 years, I first started with Cats and then later with bact.  I thoroughly enjoy driving for bact and the laughs we have on a Thursday is always something to look forward to!

I am married (I call him my first husband just to keep him on his toes!) with 2 children, Stacey and Conrad. They have given me 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; I don’t know what I have done to deserve this, but there you go!

As far as hobbies go, I enjoy sewing and cross-stitch, sewing being the main one. A fair amount of my time is spent helping on a national 24 hour helpline. It can be quite harrowing at times but is generally very rewarding. My husband and I enjoy walking and we have completed some longish walks locally – all in the name of keeping fit and losing weight. My latest project is to do a 10km run in Norwich this May in aid of cancer research, I may find it a struggle but it’s all for a good cause. We have lived in Somerleyton for 40 years and love the country way of life.”
